I’m going to say something that might be controversial, but it’s how I feel. DG never introduces characters without having a solid plan for them in the plot. If they are to be a temporary part of the books, their story comes to a definite conclusion (i.e. Malva, Cunningham, Elspeth, etc…) I was never a fan of the Fanny storyline in the books because I was trying so hard to figure out the “why” of her character in the overall Outlander universe. I get it — she’s an orphan & Jamie & Clare take in those that need a home. But beyond being just another mouth to feed, I think this left too much room for speculation from the writers to find a purpose for Fanny. Thus, the “Faith lived” nonsense. I’m looking forward to seeing what DG does in book 10 to bring Fanny’s authentic purpose in the story — will she stay with Clare and learn to be her apprentice? She seems to have an affinity to picking up medical knowledge from Clare. I don’t know — the series seems to have gone off the rails & hopefully DG’s scripts will get it somewhat back on track.
I also thought it was ridiculous that he taught a song IN ENGLISH to the French lace lady and she learned it in two minutes. Learning a song in French would have been hard enough - but a popular English song? Come on!!!
