I...Brandy, I'm with you in hoping for the best. I truly want to love this show, but they haven't been making it easy this season - especially for us book readers. On a hopeful note, shortly before they announced seasons 3 and 4, I read on another forum that a new female writer has been hired for Outlander. I hope it's true. I also hope they'll bring aboard more (or even one) women directors in the future. And come back,Anna Foerster!! dolittlehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14918644216099319518noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2193939705192575193.post-37861447951384507272016-06-18T17:14:17.411-04:002016-06-18T17:14:17.411-04:00Dolittle, your comment helped calm me! And unfortunately, for me, I didn't feel like they captured that throughout most of this season, but I'm keeping my fingers crossed for next season !Brandy Brucehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/18403497384612957540noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2193939705192575193.post-79219568360117854482016-06-18T16:52:48.768-04:002016-06-18T16:52:48.768-04:00I read that article just last night. Plot changes...I read that article just last night. Plot changes don't necessarily worry me - its tinkering with J&C's characterization and relationship that mostly get to me. I won't mind a change so much if the characters I'm seeing are still recognizable as DG's Jamie and Claire.

As much as I enjoy the books, I'm no purist. In fact, after the reunion in Voyager (which somewhat underwhelmed me as written), there is a lot that I would love to see changed. Mr. Willoghby seems very expendable, and it would be great if, after Claire's return, they could find an excuse to ground the series in Scotland for as long as possible (I wish they had done that this season - I'm in no hurry to get to the stones). Until the show gets away from trying to get through a whole book in one season, I don't think we will ever get enough character and relationship moments, be they new creations or canon.

dolittlehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14918644216099319518noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2193939705192575193.post-36833437331644549842016-06-18T14:48:53.695-04:002016-06-18T14:48:53.695-04:00Read this! There's even a funny episode of Portlandia titled "One Moore Episode" where a couple has binge watched BSG at the expense of all other obligations, including their jobs, and are so desperate for more that they go in search of RDM to get him to write another episode. Moore himself appears in the episode. So with Outlander, he likely expected (and rightly) to be able to count on support from his own fans. I can't help but wonder if he was even aware of Gabaldon's large enthusiastic following when he was vying for the rights. Perhaps we were a big surprise - possibly even an annoyance to someone who already had a great sense of his own reputation and importance.

One might suspect, based on the nature of human ego, that his own long-time fans are of most importance to him. However, TV is a business, Moore is a businessman, and to make money a show must be successful at attracting fans. I doubt RDM could deny that DG's large number of book fans GREATLY contribute to the buzz and ratings success of the show, but I do have my doubts that we are appreciated beyond that. I don't believe the "female gaze" or the rich emotional relationship aspects of this story ranks high on his priorities. Occasionally, bones are thrown, but there's rarely much meat on them.

dolittlehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14918644216099319518noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2193939705192575193.post-50377867047274720722016-06-18T09:59:42.285-04:002016-06-18T09:59:42.285-04:00I agree, dolittle, on the poiintless scenes and si...I agree, dolittle, on the poiintless scenes and side stories, that go on and on and take away screen time from Jamie and Claire. The question is, how much time will she have to do it? Unfortunately, she is under several constraints - especially time. This season, we have sat through enough pointless scenes and side stories, as well as a long dose of the "male gaze" on war. It sometimes seems like RDM is more interested in impressing his old Battlestar fans than us. Still, I'm excited to see 211, and hoping for the best.dolittlehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14918644216099319518noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2193939705192575193.post-36275492390448339552016-06-17T17:09:12.992-04:002016-06-17T17:09:12.992-04:00I was definitely feeling like Jamie and Claire wer...I was definitely feeling like Jamie and Claire were more like the book this last episode. He's finally acting like the man he was in the books from the beginning, and she's finally doing more than scowling and being annoying. The sad part is, they've taken forever to get to this point with Jamie and Claire. And the lack of intimacy... It's in the book for a reason. It builds their relationship. The show got so much praise and attention for the way it portrayed sex last season, remember that entertainment weekly cover?? Kind of misleading when it comes to this season. Talk About a dry spell! Please, Diana, bring back the love! The next few episodes will be so sad, give us something! I am hopeful that they will better capture Jamie and Claire as characters next season, since they took the LONG road to get them to where they are now!! I'm very excited to watch Diana's episode.Brandy Brucehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/18403497384612957540noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2193939705192575193.post-73959961162606124082016-06-17T01:40:54.710-04:002016-06-17T01:40:54.710-04:00On FB, Diana has posted a link to a clip from ep 2...On FB, Diana has posted a link to a clip from ep 211. It's very short, but it's her words, and it's already got me grinning like a Cheshire cat! I am so hopeful about this next episode!

So many of us follow the book series primarily for the J&C relationship and the strength, intelligence, and humor of those characters. I fear that if the TV series doesn't touch base with those assets often enough, it will lose viewers - especially the non book readers who won't be able to automatically fill in what's missing.

I hope ep. 211 manages to strike a better balance between the action/adventure and the relationship moments we've missed this season. If so, those of us who stream it early should do our level best to get out the word to others to watch it. Perhaps strong ratings for the episode would speak loud enough to make TPTB take some notice (I can dream, can't I?).

Anyway, here's hoping Diana's episode gives us all big grins!

Dolittle
dolittlehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14918644216099319518noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2193939705192575193.post-78270920455382765932016-06-17T00:11:47.620-04:002016-06-17T00:11:47.620-04:00This comment has been removed by the author.dolittlehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14918644216099319518noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2193939705192575193.post-89767902552595244072016-06-16T23:23:57.800-04:002016-06-16T23:23:57.800-04:00FYI....The character, Willie was supposed to die i...FYI....The character, Willie was supposed to die in this episode instead of Angus. Definitely a foreboding speech!
The two crofters were Ross and Kincaid. Kincaid died.
I think that Dougal would have spared Lt. Jeremy Foster if he hadn't upset Dougal by telling him that the British would win the war.
I don't like Bonnie Prince Charles. He has a hidden agenda and is too easily led by others. He showed that he was dependent on the Quartermaster-John (who was Irish), and only listened to Jamie and the General because John was there. No backbone at all.
My only question is why didn't Angus say something to Claire about his injury when she was examining him after taking care of Rupert? I can understand him wanting Rupert to be taken care of first, but according to Diana, his last words were, "Save me, mistress!" Senseless death.
It's going to be interesting to see what Diana does with episode 211 on Saturday night. According to the sneak peeks, we may see them in bed, finally! Yes, Diana!!
Sherryhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09173177036204221501noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2193939705192575193.post-54432269287428579142016-06-14T09:41:25.229-04:002016-06-14T09:41:25.229-04:00I was very busy Sunday but rushed around when I go...I was very busy Sunday but rushed around when I got hom so I could have time to listen to you! Thanks again for pithy comments. I did notice Angus was getting a lot of camera time but was totally shocked when he collapsed. Then Rupert got up and walked with his huge knife wound. He may get it yet!
I saw a comment from Diana that Hugh will be in ep 11, so I think we will get the church and the Duke's castle scenes. Maybe some love stuff, too?
Dougal figures into the finale, so we will see another over-the-top drmamtic scene from him. He was disgusting in this episode, slashing all those helpless victims.
I'm surprised we didn't see some quickie post-battle sex from Jamie and Claire, but maybe they want to have a slower, more beautiful scene. I hope so. Anything! We don't need a big nude scene, just some loving words and touch.
The battle was terrific, and I mean portrayed magnificently. I liked the fog effect so you could see individual battles between men. Poor Fergus! My heart stopped when he got battered around.
They set up the choreography of a war so well: the men in uniforms lined up contrasting British and Scot, the bloody battle itself, and the aftermath. Well done. Sam was just wonderful, portraying many emotions. Dougal was good, too, but he is getting creepy.
I am very curious about this week's episode and anxious to see how Herself writes her own story for the screen: writers are given an outline of events so she has to work within their framework. We shall see!!
Susannoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2193939705192575193.post-25985382234816724442016-06-14T02:20:44.575-04:002016-06-14T02:20:44.575-04:00From Diana's FB page someone asked her if she ...From Diana's FB page someone asked her if she chose the episode she wrote "I didn't.
