They handled it well and I feel it’s more of a way they called everyone together for a “meeting”. They just couldn’t pick up a phone and say, “Come over. We need to talk.” Luluhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/18205601591981330160noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2193939705192575193.post-82282350757347236712020-02-19T02:29:05.007-05:002020-02-19T02:29:05.007-05:00Three cheers for Roger. I know he gets a lot of negatives from his not returning immediately. (Side note: can you imagine a two plus month return trip with Jamie and Roger. I don't think it would be a picnic all the way. Anger, frustration, guilt and sorrow. Emotions he would not feel comfortable sharing with Jamie. I;m sure he was following them at a close distance.) He truly loves Brianna. Second, He made a blood oath to Jem. No matter what Jem is his son. The three of them are a family. He is committed to them. Third he made an oath to Jamie. When Jamie looked at him he was in shock and still processing what was happening. Even though he's experienced a modern day version of gatherings and callings, it was not as powerful and overwhelming as this. When he heard Roger MacK. son of my house, the words spoke to his soul. He knew what to say because of his studies or he has good auditory memory. He has to be able to stand by these words. I guess the round trip through time has been postponed.
Jaime is Claire guide through the time period. He grounds her in the 1770s. She has him as her confidant.
Roger and Brianna don't have a foothold in the 1770s. Their challenges will be different. Roger will have to find a profession that works for him. He still has to farm, hunt etc. to feed his family. The supermarket is too far in the future. In a way it feels like their playing dress up and make believe. They must figure it out. War is a bloody experience. I watched the reviews of all 4 seasons ...Hi ladies. I watched the reviews of all 4 seasons during the long awaited return. I really enjoyed them. I've also read all the books.
1. The blood oath was a salute to book 4. It happened the minute Roger came back. Jamie, Claire and Brianna witnessed it. Then they go outside and slug each other.
2. The shaving scene was a salute to book 4. Jamie watched only. It happened about a week after Roger arrived at the ridge. During that scene Roger listed all the things he didn't know how to do. What he had was a strong back. Jamie accepted this and gave him chores to do and said later he would teach him how to milk a cow. They discussed the wrongs on both sides. Jamie says something like on your word we call it even. Roger says "done". This refers to the "Return to Brianna" and the "Beating and Indian sale". Now the major tense times are any reference to young Ian. That would take a lot more than words to resolve.
3. During panel discussions it is revealed that 5 months have past since season 4 finale. During that time the construction on the big house started and got almost done. They must have had a lot of help. There's no way that house would get done now that quickly. Time has no meaning.
4. Lord John does not appear in book 5. Any opportunity to see him is a blessing. He does write letters and sends packages. Willie is in England.
5. The govenor showed up at the gathering after the wedding in book 5. You know he wasn't invited because of the housing discussion. He happened to be in the neighborhood to demand that Jamie start his quest.
6. The who's who game is fun. I can name that character after 3 glimpses. I'll wait for the formal introductions. All will be revealed.
7. The small "gathering" was planned as the cross appeared in the background in several scenes during the wedding day. However the purpose of the gathering changed.
8. Roger Jocasta scene was priceless. In the book Jocasta planned this meeting so witnesses would overhear him denounce the inheritance. everyone would know he wasn't marrying Brianna for it. Jamie even commented to Claire that Jocasta did s big favor for Roger's standing in the community.
9. Roger can sing to me any day.
10. Trials and tribulations to come. Book readers don't know which elements will be skipped. Book 5 is a book you have to get through on your way to book 6. I'm looking forward to how they deal with revelations at the end of book 5 no science fiction pleases. Book 6 is better. They could combine book 7 and 8. Book 7 is one of the weaker books. I really enjoyed book 8. I wonder if book 9 will come out right after the season ends.
11. Goodnight ladies. I'll say a little prayer for Tom. He was a great guest star.
Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15799775107599107833noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2193939705192575193.post-71437294911631051172020-02-18T23:42:46.403-05:002020-02-18T23:42:46.403-05:00Interesting that while Jamie so fastidiously shave...Interesting that while Jamie so fastidiously shaved Roger, he didn't shave himself for the wedding. He sported the current stubble look (which I find so disagreeable these days).
Claire mentioned to Brianna that her own parents weren't at either of her weddings. Bree replied that her mother would be at hers, as well as the man Bree loves. I found it strange that she didn't say her father would be too when they had had their moment recognizing how lucky they were to be together for this important day.
As for Murtagh, he's a terrific actor, and yes, he's hot but I still don't like the fact that he was added to the story last season. I prefer sticking to the books more closely.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2193939705192575193.post-9844685059177366782020-02-18T19:55:02.022-05:002020-02-18T19:55:02.022-05:00So glad Droughtlander is over and you ladies are b...So glad Droughtlander is over and you ladies are back. Agreed that the wedding should have been at the Gathering, not as a celebration just for Jamie and Claire's family and tenants, with a few select guests. If I recall, Fiery Cross opened with Claire waking at the campsite "hearing" Frank and telling him to go away. Yes, the wedding was SO long and the other plot twist in the book was the Catholic priest that was to marry Brianna and Roger, but he was arrested. The priest was courtesy of Jocasta. That is why they were married by a pastor instead (in the book) because the priest was forced to leave. The priest did manage to christen the children while Jamie gave his "confession" in lurid detail. That was missing in this episode also.
I did, for the most part, like the episode. Roger's conversation with Jocasta was priceless and I had to give my 35 year old younger son the Reader's Digest for the last two seasons so he could understand what was going on. I had started my husband on Outlander Season 1 while he was in the hospital 2 years ago. He did enjoy it. He passed away in March 2019, so I understand the nod to Tom by Carol. (Tears here.)
I agree that Lord John in the book would not be at the wedding, but I do understand why they included him in this episode. I did feel sorry for him, alone as the drunks fell off to sleep around him.
I thought Germaine's comment about "ticks" - heretics - was very funny. Nice!!
I saw an earlier comment about Murtagh possibly not lasting into Season 6, and it may be true. I am not sure how they will include his character (and do it justice) after Jocasta marries Duncan. I was happy they kept the character alive and I LOVE Murtagh, he is awesome and hot!
I live out in the country and my internet connection is slow at best. It was hard watching the episode as my connection kept reloading the episode. When Carol had some glitches, I was thinking she might have the same issue.
Once again, so very happy to see you ladies!!Gail Robertsonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01837489584008560344noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2193939705192575193.post-67833908600633384732020-02-18T18:27:34.766-05:002020-02-18T18:27:34.766-05:00But isn't is wildly delicious that we can come...But isn't is wildly delicious that we can come up with endless endings for Murcasta? I don’t watch them at the beginning, either, so as a book reader there’s some surprise. Anyway, I thought Arch and Murdina were shown a couple times, once in an introduction/greeting to the family and then once in their own shot. Duncan Innes was there I think as a man with a sleeve pinned over. -I agree with the comment that Murtaugh is more likely to stand and deliver in a fight than hide out in Ny. I don't think that Murtagh is going to go hide anywhere.I don't think it is in his nature to run and hide. I think that he believes that he's living on borrowed time after Culloden and is not going to give up. I think that he is going to fight with the Regulators and at some point, Jamie will come face to face with him and have to make the decision to shoot him. I don't think that Jamie will, but someone else will shoot and kill Murtagh. From my crystal ball. LOL. And then, the story will be back on track with the books. Another comment- Murdina Bugg was there somewhere but who was she? She was credited. I think Jamie would also be pissed off with him as well, putting his aunt in danger. Most of his regulator associates are in the local NC area so it's likely he will stay around and I have a feeling his character won't last into S6. PS Young Murtagh was hot and I think they did it with just good make up smoothing his skin and maybe just a bit of CGI!kebbielebbiekazhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02585588675856645480noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2193939705192575193.post-10544378740050274102020-02-18T05:49:52.133-05:002020-02-18T05:49:52.133-05:00Re the cake thing - yep it is not a UK thing and I...Re the cake thing - yep it is not a UK thing and I hope most US brides and grooms offer slightly smaller portions to their loved one's that looked like a massive gob full! kebbielebbiekazhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02585588675856645480noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2193939705192575193.post-22548577594813205952020-02-18T05:45:40.529-05:002020-02-18T05:45:40.529-05:00Regarding the guest list and the whole lavish and ...Regarding the guest list and the whole lavish and formal vibe going on I think in interviews several mentions have been made to fans wanting to see more of the family coming together intimate stuff and I think this is the result.
