Hayley Atwell IS Claire

Spoiler Alert:  Dinna read unless you have read "An Echo in the Bone".

I just watched "Captain America" and couldn't stop texting Tracey because Hayley Atwell IS Claire Beauchamp Randall Fraser Grey.  She is Claire perfection on a plate!  It's uncanny!!

(My apologies if anyone suffered any kind of faintness of heart whilst watching Eddie Redmayne at work. He is positively scrumptious.)

Just wanted to say I am SO SORRY - I completely forgot to blog about chat today!  I was at Tracey's all day, celebrating Christmas with our families and the fact that it was Monday never entered our minds!

Thanks to all who came to chat;  we had a lot of fun!  (I hope you guys got some good Scottish Prisoner chat in while I was putting my kids to bed!)

I hope you all had a wonderful holiday and we'll see you next Monday at 9PM Eastern!

Tracey:  IT'S A CHRISTMAS MIRACLE!!

Carol:  ROFLMAO! Hello you beautiful Savings and Loan!!!!

Carol:  I just suffered through gay sex with lord John. Blooorrtttttt!!!!

Tracey:  STEPHAN!!!!!!!

Carol:  Blech. I dinna need to hear about bending over pillows or lubing it up with the oil from the dish.  He's like Claire with her bedside lotion!

Carol:  Having one's member in one's hand seems to be a central theme in his book.

Tracey:  You r so homophobic lolol

Carol:   BULLSHIT!! I just don't want to read about the sex!  Look at Dave O!  He's gay and the mere mention of vajayjay throws him into a tailspin!!  Can you imagine his reaction to lesbian sex?!

Author's Note:  Tracey's and I are self-proclaimed fag hags.  She knows I love the gays. :)

BookTrib Chat with Diana Gabaldon

Outlander Chat

Thanks to all of you who came out for MOP Chat last night.  We got in a good hour before the chat company crapped out on us!  (99Chats.com - steer clear.)

The reason we haven't used a new chat company is quite simple; the good ones cost money!  And who needs a lot of ads, scrolling text and pop-ups getting in our way while we're lamenting about Jamie and Claire?!  (And Fergus Lamaze!)

But...I've found one that seems decent and lets me pay monthly...so we'll test it out and see how it goes for the next few weeks, mkayyyy?

Chat is Canceled Tonight

Unfortunately, due to technical difficulties (ie - the damned chat won't work!)  we will have to cancel chat this evening.  We will hopefully reschedule and host chat another night this week.

Our utmost apologies for the inconvenience!!

Still Working on Chat!

I am waiting to hear back from the chat hosting company and looking frantically for a solution.

This is pretty much me right now:

MOP Chat is Having Technical Difficulties!

MOP Chat is having technical difficulties and will be working ASAP!

I apologize for the inconvenience!

Life Gets in the Way

Lest anyone wonder why I haven't read more...

Let's just say that in addition to wanting to "make it last", I'm also up to my eyeballs in First Grade Christmas Projects.  This week:  Finish the calendars we've been working on since September.  Next week:  Make and decorate 25 gingerbread houses.

If this sounds familiar to anyone: Class Mom Wonder Twin Powers...ACTIVATE!

Outlander Chat Tonight

Outlander Chat Tonight - 9PM Eastern!  (I will be doing the same thing I did last week; I'll be there at 9 to discuss what I've read...then I'll scoot so y'all can discuss the rest.  :)

The Scottish Prisoner: Post Numero Uno

SPOILER ALERT: Dinna read unless ye have read 13% of The Scottish Prisoner.  (I think I'm halfway through Chapter 5 but dinna quote me on that.  eReader Confusion can sometimes mess with the brain.)

First off - please forgive me - and please dinna judge me too harshly - for only having read 5 chapters.  I have not pushed myself in the slightest...because I want to make this book last.  Think about how the blog has been for the past 6 months or so.  It's full of the usual "Monday Chat" posts and commentary about various Scottish coolness.  Or Scots-loving Canadian bands in Disney World!  Now...that's all well and good...but it's not so great, right?

I have decided to make this last so I'll have some decent material while waiting for MOHB (or is it MHOB?  I can never remember).

Either that, or I can always go back to talking about Fergus Lamaze.  Heh heh, Christie.  I can hear you laughing all the way from New Jersey.

OK - so let's get to it:

It would be an understatement to say I was more than a little surprised when Jamie woke up in his bed in the stable and was ready to spank one out.  (Sorry - but there is just no ladylike way to say that.)  When he headed to the other stable to finish the job, I was totally worrit for him, thinking someone would see him.  Well - HELLO?  Did Betty see him?  Did Quinn?  I still dinna know...and I find the not-knowing absolutely delicious.

Speaking of Quinn, is it me or is he a larger-than-life character, right out of the gate?  Even if he doesna have much of a part, he still seems like such a presence.  To the point where I'm already casting him in my head.  (Colin Farrell, much?)

"Kings have their destiny about them- but so do those who serve them.  This is yours."  Love love LOVE that quote.  I've always held a grudge that Jamie was robbed of his birthright in Scotland.  But he has helped/supported/fought for so many people of stature over the years...that his accomplishments dwarf those of a King or a higher member of government.

If you've ever seen the film, "Ever After"...Danielle makes the most amazing speech to Prince Henry, based on quotes she took from "Utopia" by Sir Thomas More:  "A country's character is defined by its "everyday rustics" as you call them.  They are the legs you stand on and that position demands respect."  Again - this is how I feel about Jamie.  If it weren't for him, so many people would be up the proverbial creek in Scotland...England...America...take your pick.  So even though he didna get to be the BMOC for long in Scotland - and had to leave his position as Laird O' the Ridge in America - he has done more in a support role of Kings and Government officials that he might ever have done as Laird.

This is a topic I've pondered in my own life; the question of whether the large amounts of work are worth small amounts of recognition, if big things are happening in the process.  I think we can take a lot away from JAMMF's sometimes-unrecognized but always-heroic actions.  We don't have to be the boss - or be in the spotlight - to get major things accomplished in this life.  Sometimes we're meant to be the man behind the curtain.

OK moving on - Lord John.  Tracey is a bit concerned that I won't be thrilled with the Lord John storyline.  But so far, so good...because he's always with Hal.  And I've already mentioned how I feel about Hal.  I think Hal reminds me of a few people I know in life who make me laugh and get me through my day...and that's why I love his smartass, dry sense of humor so much.  I also LOVE the fact that Minnie was a spy, oh yes I do.  How COOL is that?  Yet another strong woman in Gabaldonland.  I look forward to finding out much more about her.

More quotes I loved:

"Fumbling in the box that held his possessions, he found his rosary..."  That reminds me of the Voyager montage in my head and my vision of Jamie walking with Lord John onto the Helwater estate for the first time.  He's carrying his meager belongings to the sound of "Amazing Grace" which is being sung by Susan Boyle in my mind.  (Don't cringe, y'all.  She's Scottish.  I dig her.)

"nor hell a fury like a woman scorned."  DAMN STRAIGHT.  Cheese alert:  I'm about to mention Duran Duran.  Some of you may want to go get a cold beverage and come back.  I've always loved Simon le Bon's bastardization of that line: "Hell hath no fury like a young girl's ego" from Duran Duran's "Meet El Presidente".  I could do a whole blog post on instances of women being scorned from books, tv, film...but suffice to say I just love that line.

"wonderful pungent scent of the horse's warm hide."  Does it get any better than this in a DG novel?  No, no it does not.  Something tells me Hildy, Cari and Jennifer J  will read that with unflagging joy.  :)

OK I'm getting punchy...so off to read.

Stay tuned...

Got this from Belinda.  It is SO cool!

"Here is Jamie on The Ridge before he knew there was a Ridge with Claire.  We're in the NC mountains with the family on our annual Christmas tree trip and of course the book came with me.  You can see why he picked this spot."

Tracy Has HER Scottish Prisoner!

Tracy's car broke down after work on Tuesday when the book came out...so she and her daughter walked a distance to her parents' house to borrow their car.  It never occurred to her to WAIT for the book!  And she has already finished it.

Now THAT'S devotion!!!

Tracey was a Barnes and Noble Prisoner! (VIDEO)

Watch Tracey as she skulks around B&N, looking for HER Scottish Prisoner!

Talk Supe's "West Coast Stacey" has HER Scottish Prisoner!

Well, I downloaded Scottish Prisoner to my iphone, but then couldn't take a picture of me reading it, since  the camera's on there as well.
Instead, here's a pic of me today (St. Andrews day and all) wearing a kilt and about to start reading the Scottish Prisoner as soon as I get home from work (and force my family to an early bed). So it's almost as if the Scottish Prisoner is taking a pic of me reading itself.

Patti has HER Scottish Prisoner!

Send in your Scottish Prisoner Photos!

So I saw these cute little shots of Donna and Tonya holding their new Scottish Prisoners today...and thought "Hmm...how about posting shots of people with their new books on the blog?!"

So what do you think?  Feel like seeing your face up in lights?

Send me pics of yourselves holding your new Scottish Prisoners!  Shots at home are great...and right, smack in the middle of the store is even better!

Outlander Chat Tonight

Outlander Chat Tonight - 9PM Eastern!  (If you want to come at 8:45, Tracey and I will be discussing the new Breaking Dawn movie!)

Eilean Balnagowan is for Sale!

Let's pool our money and buy this puppy!  We can have authentic Outlander parties in the Highlands whenever we want!  It's only 395,000 pounds!  (That's $618,570 American dollars to you and me.)

Can't you just see it now?  You arrive in Glasgow...take a lovely car ride Northwest where you gaze at the gorgeous landscape.  Then motorboat out to the island...where I'll greet you with a lovely single malt and a tray of bannocks.  Then...you'll retire to the fantastic castle we've all chipped in on and built.  I like to think of it as "Castle de Purgatory".

After you've freshened up in your authentic Scottish room, complete with tartan rug, gorgeous wood paneling and fantastic four poster with beautiful Scottish linens (which would cause Jamie Fraser to say "Christ, ye could get lost in this thing, Sassenach), we'll all meet down in the garden for another cocktail and a laugh about Jamie and Claire's activities in the Commandant's own garden.

Then we'll all have a wonderful Scottish meal prepared by one of the finest chefs in Scotland (I have to find him first) and a few more cocktails...and listen to a fantastic Scots band, complete with kilts, sporrans and little else.  :)

And that's just Day 1!  Who's with me?

Excellent Brave Article

Check out this awesome Brave article sent to me by Julia.  I had no idea Kelly MacDonald was doing the voice for the main character, Bree Princess Merida - or that she was Scottish!  She plays an Irish woman (and does an impeccable accent) on Boardwalk Empire.

Could you listen to the intro from Kevin McKidd four million times a day?  I could.

Off Kilter

So we were in Disney last week...and one night we trotted over to Epcot to meet friends.

And we're walking along...and what should appear on stage right in front of us?  A Scots Canadian band in kilts, called "Off Kilter".  I wish you were all there!  I was taking photos and texting Tracey like a mad-woman!  They were a lot of fun!

A Scottish Tragedy

Just received this week joke from MOP bud, Hugh from Scotland:

DAVID CAMERON was visiting a Scottish primary school and he visited one of the classes.
They were in the middle of a discussion related to words and their meanings. The teacher asked Mr.Cameron if he would like to lead the discussion on the word 'tragedy'.

So the illustrious leader asked the class for an example of a 'tragedy'.

A little boy stood up and offered: 'If ma best freen, wha lives on a fairm, is playin' in the field an' a tractor rins ower him and kills him, that wid be a 'tragedy.' '

'No', said David - 'that would be an accident.'

A little girl raised her hand: 'If a skale bus kerryin' fufty children drove ower a cliff, killing a'b'dy inside, that wid be a tragedy'

'I'm afraid not', explained David - 'that's what we would call a 'great loss'' .

The room went silent. No other children volunteered. David searched the room.

'Isn't there someone here who can give me an example of a tragedy?'

Finally, at the back of the room, wee Johnny raised his hand...

In a quiet voice he said:

'If a plane kerryin' you and Mr.Clegg wis struck by a 'freendly fire' missile & blawn tae smithereens, that wid be a tragedy.'

'Fantastic!' exclaimed David. 'That's right. And can you tell me why that would be a tragedy?'

'Weel,' says wee Johnny 'it his tae be a tragedy, because it certainly widnae be a great loss.....
and it probably widnae be a f***ing accident either!

Ladies and Gentlemen...I Have Found My Stephen Bonnet

So I'm watching The Vampire Diaries tonight...and all the sudden it hits me:   Trask - Radio.  Klaus - Bonnet.

How is it that I've never noticed this before?  Or have I? Have we ever discussed this and I am forgetting?  Have the Staceys brought this up and I've filed it away somewhere?  I just can't believe this just popped into my head tonight.  Joseph Morgan.  Welsh.  Hot.  Blonde.  Need I say more?  (And c'mon...ye know damn well he can do an Irish accent.  Hell,  _I_ can do an Irish accent!  OK so maybe I'm Irish-American...but still.  Unless it's Northern Irish, it's a lot easier than Scottish, right?!)

And don't let the sweetness factor deter you from truly grasping my vision.  He plays a totally sinister guy - aka vampire - on The Vampire Diaries.  Boyfriend's up to the task.

Feast thine eyes.  (Sorry for the buns (as if I need to apologize) but for some reason, THAT is the photo that sticks when you upload the video.  No worries - the rest is pretty tame.)  Please watch the whole video; he just gets better and better.

Pride and Prejudice

Just had to share.  It's a rainy day here in NJ...and even though I have lot more to accomplish today, I can't help but sit here and watch this scene from Pride and Prejudice.

Major SPOILER scene.  Don't watch if you're not familiar with the book/film.

The slow walk in the mist makes me giddy with glee.  Imagine a scene like this in Outlander?  le sigh...

Do you ever have moments of O. I. ?  Otherwise known as Outlander Impatience?  All of the sudden, in the middle of the day, you think to yourself "I can't WAIT a moment longer for Book 8 to come out!"  or "WHEN will it be NOVEMBER 29th already so I can get my hands on some NEW JAMIE?!"

Or...in my case...today's OI came in the form of film dreaming.  This is the email I just sent Tracey...in total exasperation:

LET'S GET THIS SHOW ON THE ROAD ALREADY!!!

Diana Gabaldon's Explanation of Book 8's Title

FASCINATING explanation (aren't they all?!) from Diana Gabaldon about how/why she chose the title for the infamous-but-yet-to-be-finished "Book 8".

WRITTEN WITH MY OWN HEART'S BLOOD?
or
WRITTEN WITH MY HEART'S OWN BLOOD?

Which do YOU like better?

Personally I like "own heart's blood".  But what the heck do I know?  Rippin ribbon!  Exactly!

 Ho. Ly. CRAP, y'all!!!!!

A Song in the Daylight

I have a non-Outlander question for y'all:

Has anyone read "A Song in the Daylight" by Paullina Simons (The Bronze Horseman)?  I finished two days ago and - no matter how hard I try - I cannot begin to kick these characters out of my brain.

A Book For Shannon

OK Y'all...Shannon is at my house and desperately needs a new book...preferably a series. She's into historical romance (accent on the romance!)

I know you guys have made suggestions...but if you wouldn't mind doing it again, I'd appreciate it.

She has already ready the Into the Wilderness series as well as Twilight, The Bronze Horseman...and of course, Outlander. And she just finished The Winter Sea.

Thanks all - I appreciate it!

All Hail Michelle K!

So I'm on Facebook a little while ago...and I see a wall post from Ladies of Lallybroch about the Fergus post on Diana Gabaldon's blog.  So of course I go to check it out...and thank GOD I did...because she made a tremendous mention of Michelle K Canada's "charming" blog post!!  ("Charming"! Squee!)

And why do I say "thank GOD?"  Because Michelle was nice enough to email me these shots when she got back from the festival - and somehow I missed posting them!!  (I'll tell you how...being one person and trying unsuccessfully to run multiple blogs...THAT's how.  Man I need an assistant! LOL)

Michelle - my apologies, woman!  And thanks again for the shout-out to "our best friend, Doug."  That...was awesome.

Everyone else - go check out Michelle's post!

My Purgatory Dot Com

Just wanted to fill y'all in on what's happening with the new website.  I've created so many blogs, I wanted to combine them all in one place.  I also wanted somewhere to talk about non-Outlander things...like True Blood...Game of Thrones...celeb gossip and the like.  Tracey and I will be making some videos that we hope will have you laughing your ass off or (hopefully not) running screaming from your computer!

Thus - mypurgatory.com is now live.

The blogs will all remain at their own addresses - ie - myoutlanderpurgatory.com - but they will also now be housed in one place over at mypurgatory.

I want to throw a massive THANK YOU out to an awesome guy named Stephen who selflessly gave me the domain "mypurgatory.com".  I also want to point out that he has the COOLEST Etsy store called Steampunk Movement Studio and I would love it if you'd check it out!
