Found this from randomnessfanvids on youtube today. Discuss!

  1. I don't know, I think this Roger seems a little too young. And I think Bree has never seen, let alone used, a mobile phone :-) That was a little bit jarring.

  2. Agree with Karen. I thought that the Roger sailing away on a steamship was sort of interesting and relevant, but overall:
    • The guy is WAYYY more young Ian. He WISHES he was Roger LOL.
    • I kept trying to figure out which Bree parts were from True Blood (the actress plays Jessica) and which were from some other show, and what was the show, and have I ever seen it, etc. (I will say that Jessica is not a bad choice for Bree, tho my own Bree is more Charlotte from Lost.)
    • LOL re: the phone--thought the same thing. Or at the very least make it an old fashioned oversized Zack Morris cordless.

  3. Close...but no cigar! Agree with Karen that Roger is too young. I like the Bree actress though. I think she could carry it off, even though, in True Blood, her character is flighty - which is definitely not the grounded Bree. Tracey has a great idea about the guy being more like young Ian, who I adore in the books. It was fun to watch though. Thanks for posting.

  4. The actor's name is Jim Sturgess. He's from Liverpool and played Jude in the Beatles musical Across the Universe. I would have to agree that he's too baby-faced to play Roger, however I almost think he's too attractive to play Ian. Ian is supposed to be kind of homely, at least thats the image I have in my brain. And if he were to play Ian, I think it would have to be from Drums of Autumn or his return in Fiery Cross on because I don't think he can pull of looking 14 yrs old.

The Bree actress was pretty good. However, her eyes aren't 'cat like' enough for my liking.

  5. OK, this has nothing to do with the video (liked it, btw - but agree that this is NOT 'my' Roger. I'm telling you - check out the guy on the TV show White Collar...)
So, my the password on my work computer has the phrase 'ilovejamie' as part of it... I'm sure no one here is shocked by that. Anyway - a friend at work read my copy of Outlander this summer and she said she couldn't get into Jamie's character because she kept thinking of the work Jamie. (short, thick, cheesy mustache - you get the picture)
OMG!!!! Now I have to change my password - pronto! Holy kine! What was I thinking!

  6. This Bree is too girly for me. I picture a big strapping girl, a real tomboy - beautiful, but not very feminine. Definitely not Roger. Still - nice video!

  7. Totally off topic (sorry) but please check out the Men in Kilts pictures on my blog. I think you'll enjoy them. :-)

  8. It was alright, the Brianna wasn't to believable, but I could see that guy as Roger, if her got the right haircut and got super skinney and ripped. But I liked it!

  9. I agree with Diane K--Bree needs to be built like her dad, tall and strapping, not curls and overdone makeup. (I kept waiting for her fangs to pop out!) As for the Roger casting, this guy is too short and too wimpy--imagine Roger being tossed out a door by just one guy! That's too wimpy, wimpy, wimpy (well maybe this might happen to the wussy Roger in most of the last book). --Julie

  10. You know what is interesting is that I watch True Blood and she has started to grow on me on playing Bree. I think if she bulked up a little bit and put on a bit of muscle and weight she could totally do it. And she always has makeup on and is girly in those shots from True Blood but I think she could pull off Bree - get rid of the makeup and curls and be more natural. She's definitely tall and she has that "bad ass" quality about her but is still pretty. As for Jim Sturgess - I really like him but wouldn't picture him as Roger. He seems a bit too small and not as manly I guess if that makes sense and I have no idea how tall he is but it almost seems like she would be taller and bigger then him. I think his looks are good though in general if he was a bit more rugged and not as baby-faced like some of you mentioned. Interesting video though because I do like both of those actors!

  11. So I was reading Entertainment Weekly this morning and came across a short Q&A with....Ryan Reynolds. Says he's 6'2". (And you want an Outlander tie-in? He was describing how he dislocated his shoulder doing some movie. Yes, it's a stretch, but work with me here.)

I'm trying to think if I've ever actually seen him in a movie, and not sure I have. But looks-wise, we could do worse for Roger Mac. What say ye?

    ReplyDelete
  12. Well, Tracey. Ryan Reynolds I could see. He's got the body for it. Roger is supposed to be almost as big as Jamie, and the guy in this video is just a wee lad. If Ryan Reynolds grew his hair out, and they dyed it black, then he might just be good to go. The ponytail is a must! Now for the accent? Hmmm.
Slightly off topic, but my daughters new swimming coach is a total Roger Mac look-alike, imo. Tall, very nice body, hair down to his shoulders, that's occationally in a ponytail. He's yummy, I tell ya'!

As far as Bree goes, there are pictures of Julia Stiles, in other YT videos, and I will say that she does have the cat-eyes more that this girl in the video.

  13. Oooh, I loved this video! I have no problems with the cell phone use, etc... After all, what I'm seeking in an actress is that flaming hair, strapping build, and something we canna really see in a Youtube vid that's been spliced together - a badass, braw Fraser attitude. Overall, I really liked this video - I loved the coloring of Jim Sturgess for roger, and the great singing of course, and soulful eyes, and I really liked the choice of Bree. Honestly, it's going to be hard to find a really tall, strapping, charismatic Bree who's also gorgeous and doesna come across as a bit of a tranny - just sayin'. From some of the descriptions, Bree can sound a little much, you know! So, overall, I liked this video a lot! Some good choices. Better, of course, with Tracey's Ryan Reynolds suggestions- he has the ability to be sensitive, soulful and a bit soft, and then badass and strong. Maybe we can fit in Scarlett Johansson somewhere- as Laoghaire or Marsali? I can see some potential there big time!

  14. Also, I dinna watch True Blood but I DO plan to, and I didn't see Across the Universe despite my love for the Beatles, but bc I am not an Evan Rachel Wood fan. Maybe she could be cast as Malva Christie!

  15. I love putting up a video and saying "discuss". What a loaded question!

I agree with the general consensus. He's not my Roger and - while I absolutely ADORE her as Jessica on True Blood; she's not really my Bree.

But I did love the song - and I also love that people take the time to put these videos together. You have to give them props. It takes countless hours of research to go through video and cut up parts that you think pertain to the story. I loved the boat shot - even though it was roughly 200 years (give or take a decade) too late. It reminded me of Roger on the ship headed to find Bree... and I got a lovely warm feeling in my wame.... like the kind you get when you have a cup of hot tea or coffee on a freezing cold, rainy afternoon.

I miss Roger. I miss Bree. Don't even get me started on Jamie and Claire. And I know the general consensus of THAT is "reread the books!" but it's not what I want. It's so difficult when you've read 7 books in a row without stopping. Lorddddddd where's Diana's methadone list?!

PS - this comment sounds like a blog post. I think you'll be seeing it again.

  16. I really liked the video but did think that Jim Sturgess is too fine boned and not hunky enough to play Roger but I loved the 1960's feeling going on and the music is excellent.

I think my problem is that I have such a strong mental image of Roger in my mind that no one is going to be good enough to play him. To me he is a composite of Joaquin Phoenix, Ioan Gruffudd, Orlando Bloom and a young Antonio Banderas but with something else mixed in as well!

I tend to think of him a bit like Indiana Jones (not in looks of course!) when he goes from serious professor to wild adventurer!

    ReplyDelete
  17. Louise I am seriously LMAO!!! Roger is sooooo Indian Jones. I just can't get over that so flippin hilarious. Anyway for me Roger is Henry Cavill hands down. He is so hot and poised, but ready to unleash the beast at any moment. And Deborah I can totally see as Bree, no one is ever going to fit it perfectly for me (she is as hard to cast as Jamie) but she is the best fit I've seen.

  18. sometimes, Colin Farrell is still my Roger, Stephen Bonnet be damned!

and sometimes, I'd still cast Bree from the Priscilla, Queen of the Desert OR To Wang Foo, Thanks for Everything, Julie Newmar casts.

AWW Patrick Swayze, God-love-him-may-he-rest-in peace (said like my and Carol's mom, the infamous PattzR)

You know, I think at the end of the day, Patrick Swayze, while not at all my Jamie physically, is the ESSENCE of my Jamie. Does that make sense?

    ReplyDelete
  20. YES! Especially the way that Patrick Swayze was a one-woman man, and so beautiful (although of course, not totally Jamie although a bit cat-eyed), and could really dance - imagine him in that scene where Jamie dances up a storm of memories at one of the big events - is the (may I say it) the Gathering? (lorrrrrrrd)....

  21. It's that whole combination of tough guy/sensitivity/eye twinkle/bigness thing. I honestly can't think of another actor who's got the whole package like that.

I miss Patrick Swayze (sniff). I think I'll watch Dirty Dancing tonight.

  22. I've got Henry Cavill slotted to play Alexander in The Bronze Horseman so there is not way he could be Roger too since he's so perfect for "Shura" - you ladies should seriously check out those books if you haven't! :)

  23. Henry Cavill is a god of epic proportions in my world. I canna even say his name. (Say it soft and it's almost like prayinggggg.)

Trivia: HE is Stephenie Meyer's Edward Cullen. (Now hush all you non-Twilight fans. If you don't have anything nice to say...) ;)

  24. I remember reading that ages ago before the movies were even an idea. She saw him in Count of Monte Cristo was it??? when he was younger and he was the Edward she always pictured. I never thought the girl she liked seemed like Bella though.....and Steven Strait as Jacob - lord have mercy!! I couldn't stop watching vids of him before they cast Jacob just praying they would cast him. His smile just makes me melt!! I think by the time they got around to making the movies those two guys were just too old! :(

Check out this youtube video of the 3 actors Stephenie saw in those roles. Someone made it a long time ago and I must have watched it over and over and of course fell in love with the song too!

  25. and I'm totally posting these on the wrong "purgatory" but here is the one the same person made of Jacob and Bella - with those same actors (Steven Strait!!)

  26. Stop, lassies- can it be true? Henry Cavill was the original Edward? Am just discovering him through Tudors (don't remember him from Count of Monte Cristo!) and oh, goodness gracious! (Say it soft and it's almost like prayinggg indeed!!!). He IS a thing of beauty!

  27. Oh Brandy THANK YOU for that lovely little jolt of Twilight BOOKDOM. (I just made up a word and pondered whether to add an "e".) That video (the second; haven't watched the first yet but I will do so immediately) gave me back a little of the feeling of the books. The movies have just taken over everything. When all is said and done, I will reread the Twilight series and remember why I fell in love with it in the first place.

Kindof makes me happy there hasn't been an Outlander movie or series to date. Sigh. I'm so conflicted.

PS - EVERYONE! RENT the Count of Monte Cristo! Ohhh what a film. The one with Henry Cavill and Jim Caviezel (sp?) Oh boy it's so wonderful. You'll love it like you love a good Jane Austen film. :)

  28. I love those videos too Carol for the same reason. I've been reading vampire fiction since the late 80's so I read Twilight after it first came out and I had to wait for all the books!! But I just loved them so much and when it exploded and got so popular and they made the movies it sort of ruined it a little for me. I like to sometimes forget about all that and focus on just the stories that I fell in love with from the beginning.

  29. De-lurking to share this video I saw on TCM the other day after watching Mary of Scotland. It shows Inverness, Loch Ness and Culloden circa 1949, around the time Clare was there with Frank...
