Tobias Menzies is a terrific actor and is, as Frank and Jack Randall, so central to the plot that he has to be good. We can't have Jamie and Clair embody good and love etc. without the contrast of the sorrow for Frank and the threat of Jack Randal. And Clair's feelings for Jamie would be far less interesting without the memories of her love for Frank. So I am grateful for the performance of Tobias who provides the chiaroscuro, i.e. the darkness and the pathos that make Jamie and Clair work dramatically .
