Just in case anyone is still wondering about who's who on the Starz series...
ANGUS/Stephen Walters

RUPERT/Grant O'Rourke

  1. And I'll still get it wrong in the show. But thats going to happen with 2 dirty guys with dark beards and long hair, with similar clothes, and low lighting.
Its one or the other.. and it doesn't make a huge difference anyways.

    1. OMG MM - you sound EXACTLY like my husband! It's so true! Everyone's dirty and grimy and bearded and wild-haired! And until it matters...it does't matter. LOL! :)

  2. Awww! I don't know if this is going to post twice but here I go again because I'm not quite sure what happened to my other post. SOOOO!

Original post (or something like this): You all are so funny! Rupert actually followed Claire all of episode 2 and Angus followed her all of episode 3. Rupert was the one to tell Claire that he was the eyes and ears of Dougal Mac. So yeah!

Add-on---- I can't tell anyone a part either but I'm starting to. LMBO!

  5. Well, this is interesting, but in the books, Rupert is NOT the beater of Jamie. Rupert is Dougal's best friend and right hand man. Angus is the beater.

    1. I believe it is the same in the show -- whether or not you speak Gaelic (I don't!), you can hear Jamie refer to Angus repeatedly when he's offering to take Laoghaire's beating. Angus is the more dour of the two (IMO). And when they are sitting in Mrs. Fitz's kitchen, in this screen shot, Angus on the right, Rupert on the left. I think the caption is incorrect, both in who it names, and what they are "known" for (beating and following...).

    2. We don't have the Gaelic translation for that scene. There is a word used twice that may or may not have been "Angus" but in the scene Angus is one of the two men that were holding Laoghaire (the other being her father). He might have been making some kind of remark to or about him. BUT then Rupert steps up to give the beating. Dougal was controlling that scene and knocking Jamie down a peg or two for his own political purposes - and Angus is his man, following is direction.

    3. Ah! Just found the translation of the Gaelic used in this scene!
"Agus geall crìochnaich air an fheasgar bhriagh seo" which translates to "And I’ll promise you a far better end to this lovely evening" Credit: http://greatscotblog.com/

  6. Gotta disagree -- I think perhaps you've corrected this, but Angus did the beating (show AND book) in the hall. And it's up for debate, but I think Rupert has had the funnier lines to date (describing Angus preferring his women with "the tang of the barnyard" on them, and as a "shagger of wee beasties", as someone else mentioned. One of my favorite lines!

  7. Arrrgh! The pictures as I am looking at here on this site are correctly labeled - thank you Carol! Rupert did the beating in the Hall in the TV episode. Angus did the beating in the book - he was also a giant of a man in the book.

  8. Which one is Murtaugh? Was he even in the early part???? Or did he join later???

I'm so old--read this book 20+ years ago (yes, I've re-read it since, but not recently).

Just glad I'm still alive and kicking to see the series ;o)

  9. Murtaugh is the man who saved Claire from Randall in Episode 1. He is the one that spoke to Claire after she was teasing Jamie about kissing Leg-hair in Episode 3 (that speech was given to Jamie by Old Alec in the book). He is Mrs Fitz grandson and Jamie's godfather and protector. I think he's actually rather handsome myself, but from the comments made by Claire and Mrs. Fitz he must have a problem with body odor, lol!

  10. I always remember it because Angus has that funny little ponytail on top of his head.

  11. Angus does the beating in the book.
Rupert does the beating in the TV series. Rupert kind of looks like Jack Black. Angus is missing front teeth.

  12. Angus is the one in the first episode from whom Claire demands a belt to tie up Jamie's arm. He's flabbergasted by her demand and Dougal raises his eyebrow and say "Give her your belt."
