The Compuserve Books and Writers Community

The Compuserve Book and Writers Community is a GREAT place to go for all things Diana Gabaldon. It answers SO MANY questions... is chock full of posters who are just as Outlander-rabid as myself... and has post after post from Herself... some with wee gifties such as excerpts of future books. And it is moderated by a good friend to My Outlander Purgatory, Miss Karen, herself.

COMMA HOWEVER. I want to take Karen's advice and introduce myself. But I am just one of those people who has a horrendous dime diving into anything (unless, of course, it's a chocolate cake).  I am a little intimidated with so many seasoned posters... and don't want to make a bad impression right out of the gate.

So - Karen - please answer something for me - as well as those reading this post who have the same question:

What is the best way to jump in and say "Hi" on Compuserve? Should we start a new thread to introduce ourselves?  Or is there a Newbie thread we should jump into first?

THANK YOU KAREN! (said like "Thank You Easter Bunny!  Bok Bok!")

Just dive right in. <g> Really. We don't have any special protocol for first-time posters. If you have a question, go ahead and ask. If you just want to introduce yourself, you can start a new thread if you like. (Did you see what Tracey posted when she first joined the forum? If not, get her to show it to you.)

I'm just getting back after being out of town since Friday. I'll be happy to welcome you properly, just make sure you mention you're Carol from Outlander Purgatory, so I don't act like I've never heard of you before. <g>

Looking forward to seeing you there soon!

  2. Carol--try this thread:

    or this one

    http://community.compuserve.com/n/pfx/forum.aspx?tsn=1&nav=messages&webtag=ws-books&tid=67359

Both fun threads that are fairly easy to add to the conversation (I've participated in both)...

  3. Carol,
Don't be afraid. I don't post very often, I'm more of a lurker, but I really enjoy reading the various threads and getting different perspectives on the books. Keep in mind that you already have lots in common with everyone there, and I've found people to be welcoming. And I'm one of those who still gets a thrill when I get a response directly from Herself!

    Go for it!

  4. P.S. If you want to get a response from Diana directly, you might want to wait a day or two before you start posting there. She's traveling back from NC and will be back home on Wednesday.

And yes, I completely understand that it's intimidating to post on Compuserve at first. I have done everything I possibly can to make it a less scary place for Diana's fans. <g> Dinna fash, you'll do fine.

  5. Karen you do a great job. You are always verra welcoming - and you are helpful when people don't know what they're doing. I am not nearly as scairt of this forum as I've been of other forums in the past. (Most likely because we're all adults on this forum.)

I wondered about DG being around after seeing the "Newbie Brit" post (whose subject header I found to be quite amusing. LOL)

  7. It is on my personal to-do list to take the time and go through Compuserve. It completely intimidated me when I first ventured towards it.

However, Karen has always been so encouraging and the few times I was able to join in on chat, she always had great info to share that she indicated could be found on Compuserve.

    Wish me luck!!

  8. LOL note that Carol removed the spam directly above my previous post, but not my eye roll that went WITH the spam!!!

Tho since this particular comments thread seems to be popular with spammers (as noted by the what-I'm-guessing-is-spam-based-on-a-number-of-words-in-the-link post above), I will do it again:

    ^^^^^^^^ [EYE ROLL] ^^^^^^^

    heehee.
