  2. Love me some Ross Poldark as well. Just started Turn on Carole's continued recommendation. A most unfortunate opening credits (better call Bear). Major Andre, Major trouser action. Finally rolling got interested around ep 5. I will continue to watch. It must be fascinating to have it all set in your neck of the woods.

    1. SO glad you're going to keep watching, K. It only gets better. Season 2 gets really twisty. I think someone got ahold of the writers after season 1 and told them to spice it up a bit. Whatever they did; it worked!! :)

  3. Guys -

Auntie here, with thoughts on your Emmy comments .....

    TOBIAS -

Here's how I resolve this with all due deference to the cr@p that goes on on G of T:

In the year of rape, rape, rape; AND Bill Cosby -- there's NO WAY they're gonna give an Emmy to a guy who RAPES - and another guy, at that. Sorry, but that's just the way it is. More on G of T to follow.

Terry Dresbach's costumes and Outlander the Show: I think this all goes back to the DISASTROUS May 31 surprise tweetfest Terri and Ron both held, in which he was repeatedly savaged by crazed Sam fangirls for "mistreating" Sam and "favoring" Tobias; and to which he reacted badly (ie, arrogantly and with an attitude of "take-it, Bitches!") and in which Terri went to Ron's defense like a momma grizzly on steroids. This may hurt the show for years, seriously.

    ACTORS
"Mad Men" IS over, and the Emmy is going to John Hamm. He has been passed over SO MANY times (Bryan Cranston) when he DID deserve it; so he's getting it this year, his last chance.

That's not to say that all the nominees were deserving ...

Jeff Daniels DID NOT deserve it, plus he won two years ago when Bryan Cranston was ineligible. At the time even HE said he was shocked. And NO WAY was he as good this year. This is Sam's slot.

    SUPPORTING ACTORS
Jonathan Banks and Peter Dinkelage can, either one, have one of my kids. I have loved them for years, and Peter has won before.

Ben Mendellson is insanely good + insane. He's gonna win an Oscar someday. Same with Mark Rylance (different category, for "Wolf Hall").

    More later -

    2. Sounds like very well-known actors were nominated. Nominators playing it safe.

  4. Auntie back, to declaim on the political and FINANCIAL juggernaut that is HBO and, therefore, Game of Thrones .....

These nominations convince me that G of T can do ANYTHING: repeated brutal rape, child murder, the goriest of the gory. They can get away with it because the show makes a bazillion dollars, AND it is backed by HBO, which has a Public Relations department second to none. They make G of T, and any HBO show, the ones to beat.

People are just not gonna give Outlander its due until G of T finally jumps the shark.

Our best hope going forward now is for the Golden Globes. They're a bit more ahead of the curve, plus they love them some Brits. We can hope.

    NEWS FLASH !!!!!

The Outlander S 2 clip montage we saw last week was shown at ComiCon, at the Outlander panel. It looks like it was recorded on a cell phone and posted on U-Tube. Who was screaming in the bed?? (Sam or Tobias??) The Jamie/Claire sex scene!! The clips were still up last I looked.

    2. Glad somebody pointed out the HBO advantage. I see STARZ as the one snubbed: Outlander, Blacksails, etc. It must be cool in Hollywood to vote for HBO

  5. Agree, Agree..
    Tracy, you must watch Poldark!
Both of you should watch the Amercans from the beginning. My hubby and I are hooked.
I tried to watch Turn, but could not get into it. Carol, you have convinced me to try again.

    1. Anon yes. YES! I know there are parts of Turn that make you go, "whatev." Especially in season 1. It wasn't all that sexy of a show in season 1. Season two is a complete about-face. It leaves you thinking for dayssssss now. Keep going. :)

  7. The Emmy's....they are always a disappointment. "Game of Thrones" is good but it's really HBO that is getting it. I used to watch "Sons of Anarchy" sort of as a joke/guilty pleasure/sorry I'm hooked and there was some good acting there and the show never got nominated other than one actress award for the first season and I believe that was a GG. So many great shows are passed over. And, I'm sorry but "The Missing" was not very good and neither is "The Affair." OK, done now.

I got about halfway through "Turn" and stopped but now I guess I should go back? I stopped around the time the Brit deserter caught him, when he was using the false name -- something like Mr. Cabbage? I feel like it was food but maybe that's on my mind right now.

I want to thank you for being here and because of this site, I was encouraged to read the books -- I'm on the 4th one now and I can't stop reading....reading all the time.

Maybe next year, they'll get their dues! However, I find that the Golden Globes are so much better at nominating non-Americans!!!! (And the show is more fun....)

    1. YES you should go back and watch TURN. Trust me. I am still thinking about it, months after the season ended. And how much did you love that even George RR Martin complained about Outlander not being nominated??? (Along with two of my favorites, Halt and Catch Fire (Lee Pace, much?? HUBBA!) and Vikings.

    2. I'm saving "Turn" for fall....for some reason, it seems like a great autumn show. I DID NOT HEAR that about George R.R. Martin - good for him! I love that support. I did start "Halt..." and liked it a lot and I'm really curious about "Vikings" so will definitely try that. Thanks so much for these recommendations -- right now I'm watching British Netflix (I used the Hola app on Chrome and then sign up for a free 30-day trial) and I'm binging on "Silk" which is pretty great.

The funny thing is about the books is that they're in North Carolina and I had no idea that was coming. I live in NC and we do love our Regulators! In fact, one of independent bookstores still left is called The Regulator. So hilarious. I don't think they'll end up filming here but if they do I so want to be an extra!!!!!
