Who is Your Claire?

SPOILER ALERT: Dinna read unless you have read Dragonfly in Amber.

Since we were talking about "our Claire" in tonight's chat - I have to mention mine. This is my Claire....Emma Samms. Young Claire - Older Claire - doesna matter. I think she's perfect.

What do you think?

  1. Oh Carol, what an EXCELLENT choice in Emma Samms! I have always loved her.

For the life of me I can't think why some people picture the people they do as Claire (and Jamie) They are both unique creations in my own mind, that I conjur while trying to imagine what who the writer's is describing. I think some people don't pay particularly good attention to the author's description, and just make up there own. Because some of them are out there. But Emma...yes, I remember her as a young woman, too, she was so cute as Holly, lol. And really is the perfect description of Claire! Especially when Emma was young with her wild curly hair! Awesome choice woman!! LOL!

  3. Oh yes, I can totally see that-especially the older Claire to me. Even the way her skin is described by Roger in Dragonfly in Amber (and Voyager!). Good choice Carol!!

  4. Right Four! The skin! And it's not even that I'd want to cast her, because I'd love the same actress to play both ages of Claire. But I just can't help but "see" her when I read...

  5. I love it. She's great!
Sometimes I can see Anna Friel too. As much as I love Rachel Weisz, I picutre claire as very fine-boned and still very sexy in her 50s 60s - kind of like how Jane Seymour is, getting better looking every year.
But this actress has it all! Plus her voice is spot-on Claire. Love the kind of cheesy guy int he striped polo who spies on her when she's in the lake LOL - nice red fro. Possible Jamie, is it?

  6. I vote for Alex Kingston for the older Claire. She has the accent, she has the hair, and she has the experience of playing a surgeon on TV(ER).

  7. Today I had an Outlander experience that I never thought I would have: I referenced something in the books in my class (note: I did not recommend the books to a bunch of 16-year-olds!). We are currently reading and discussing Things Fall Apart (which is a great novel), and I was trying to explain the concept of the ogbanje (which is a sort of changeling/demon child). They weren't getting it, so I said, "well, the European tradition has similar stories. English stories are full of fairy hills and children who the fairies steal and replace with changlings." Thank you, Outlander! I knew you guys would appreciate it!

  8. Sirena - I sortof go back and forth between the Jane type and the Rachel type. I think like you do - Jane is just so proper and refined and good for Claire. But then I remember Claire is supposed to have a fine, fat arse and I giggle because Jane is so thin.

Terry - Ooooh Alex Kingston! NEVER thought of her. She is REALLY good!!!

Jo - isn't it funny how Outlander can infiltrate your life?? What's even funnier is your story makes me think of the Sookie Stackhouse series, too!!

  10. Hi Everyone! I'm new here...been lurking for a few weeks. LOVE your blog! Read all the books a year ago, and miss them. You are so lucky to still be discovering the books. Anyway, my Claire is Kate Bekinsale... I'm thinking how she looked in Pearl Harbor in the nurse outfit. She's probably too old for a movie now, though, since she's 40 already.

  11. Welcome Sal! Ohhh Kate Beckinsale - isn't she gorgeous?! It's funny - I still see her as so young. She looks great.

  12. My Claire is usually Rachel Weisz. Sometimes she's Daniela Denby-Ashe as she looks in North and South. Sometimes she's an amalgam of both. fwiw ;)
