40 Pages is NOT ENOUGH!!!!

Sigh. I am in massive withdrawal. I read the entire Outlander series - each book, back to back.. all 7 in a row. And then.... there was nothing. For months. And then, there was "The Exile"... and it rocked. But it was a quick read and not really full of DWG (Diana Wordy Goodness. ) Then came A Leaf on the Wind of All Hallows... and at once I was transported into three drawn-out days of pure bliss. And now... now there's nothing. Just a blackness... a murky gloom that is darker than it was before the new book came out.  It is as if someone gave me one crack pipe - after I had just gotten over giving up my ten daily crack pipes....which I apparently smoked every day for 10 years.

Sigh. And I'm having phantom reading pain. For instance, tonight, the Giants are Playing the Eagles... and I just realized my hubby will be in front of the tv from 8:30 until possibly midnight. And I thought "oooh I'm going to go upstairs and read 'A leaf on...'...sigh....nevermind".

OH yes. I am in withdrawal. Lordddddddd the withdrawal...

  2. OK, I'm right there with ya, girlfriend... I feel your pain.

So, in the meanwhile, let's obsess, shall we?! Here's what I'm thinking:
Of course Frank knew who Roger was when they met him @ the Reverand's after the war. Frank was intelligent, after all, and had a head for keeping all kinds of seemingly unimportant information in that dark-haired brain of his... he was a spy, after all. And apparently more than just a grunt in the spy-world - he was recruiting pilots for dangerous missions, after all. He just couldn't very well tell Claire that he knew the kid - he didn't really tell her much about his time in MI6 - besides, he wasn't sure what she would think if he confessed to basically having been responsible for the poor kid's dad being dead.
Now... about the stones. He obviously knew that Jerry disappeared near them. At the time it probably didn't mean anything. But later, after Claire's disappearance from another set of stones - he probably would have begun to wonder. After all, she told him what had happened, and even though he didn't believe her at the time, it appears that he did find out some things - hence the letter to Bree.

  3. Lolly - I know... I KNOW! I should be listening to Dragonfly right now...and I think I will soon, so thanks for reminding me, lass!

Christie - Tracey and I had a conversation about this today. She doesn't know that Frank knew that Reverend Wakefield's niece was Marjorie MacKenzie. So.. Roger may have looked familiar..but Frank wouldn't necessarily have recognized him.

I don't know what to think. What my burning question is... how did Claire know that Jerry didn't die in the crash?? Am I forgetting something??

  4. I need an intervention!! Like you Carol I have read all the books. Twice. Then listened to the audio books. Twice. Read Exile. Read Leaf. Visited allll the sites online having to do with Outlander. Played Josh Groban's Through her Eyes probably 50 times cause the words are Jamie's. Now what???

  5. Oooh Sanderson... I listened... very good song.. I have to add it to one of my (very neglected) playlists. Here are the lyrics for y'all:

    "In Her Eyes"

    She stares through my shadow
    She sees something more
Believes there's a light in me
    She is sure
And her truth makes me stronger
    Does she realize
    I awake every morning
With her strength by my side

    I am not a hero
    I am not an angel
    I am just a man
Man who's trying to love her
    Unlike any other
    In her eyes I am

    This world keeps on spinning
    Only she stills my heart
    She's my inspiration
    She's my northern star
    I don't count my possession
    All I call mine
    I will give her completely
To the end of all time

    I am not a hero
    I am not an angel
    I am just a man
Man who's trying to love her
    Unlike any other
    In her eyes I am

In her eyes I see the sky and all I'll ever need
In her eyes time passes by and she is with me

    I am not a hero
    I am not an angel
    I am just a man
Man who's trying to love her
    Unlike any other
    In her eyes I am
    In her eyes I am

  6. I'm sad its over, too. I enjoyed this story 100x more than Exile. And I didn't expect to...which leads me to the question: have you not tried Lord John? I didn't expect to enjoy those, either, but I really did. You'll get little hits of Jamie in there, too. Just try them if you haven't already, they're better than gazing into the abyss until the next book comes out. Plus they make Echo make more sense.

Question: where can I find Frank's letter to Bree? I don't remember it exactly.

  7. Claire knows - and tells Roger that his father didn't die flying over the Channel - because Frank sent her a letter about an odd case where a pilot named Jeremiah McKenzie that disappeared in Northumbria...
And doesn't the Reverand explain about Roger's real name to Claire and Frank when they visit? I'm saying that Frank KNEW because it was his business to know. You're a spy - you recruit someone for a dangerous, secret mission - you find out everything you can about them - their background, their family, their relatives, and so on. And he obviously kept track after the fact - brought the medal personally, long after Jerry's disappearance. He didn't have to recognize Roger - he already knew who he was. (Don't forget those crazy moss green eyes...)And, remember, Frank kinda freaked out when, shortly after meeting Roger, Claire suggested that they could adopt a war orphan. He might have thought she meant they should adopt Roger! No wonder he was wigged out!

  8. Sanderson--I'm a Josh Groban lover and never connected that song to Jamie. Thanks! Now I have to "Outlander" songs. (Ever since Carol mentioned "Set Fire to the Third Bar" as Claire searching for Jamie in Voyager, I haven't listened to the song the same way. That's all I see.)

  10. *off to bookstore to get this and read instead of prepping for Thanksgiving*

Random: since playlists were brought up.

I associate Mumford & Sons "Little Lion Man" with Jamie waking up on Culloden field, thinking "WTH?! I'm alive?!"

  11. This is the withdrawal that I fear!! I still haven't finished reading book 7, not because I don't love it, but because I FEAR it being over!
I'm spastically reading your last few posts because I haven't bought the new book yet, but I'm dying to get it. A part of me wants to skip Thanksgiving and just use the time off to read :)
Also, talksupe mentioned Mumford and Sons- I am completely obsessed with them right now! You must check them out if you're not already a fan!
