Claire and Maidenform: Perfect Together

Um... Hi. Have you seen THIS new sneak peek of "The Exile" - the Outlander Graphic Novel???  The entire chat last night was spent discussing Chesty Deluxe - I mean Claire. WHAT is with the HUGE CHONGAS???? Does anyone know?? Why yes - Diana Gabaldon does.  (Thanks, Karen, for the link!) I'll give you a hint. It's, correction, THEY'VE been toned down already. And it IS a graphic novel... which is a comic at heart... and well, think of all the comics you've seen over the years. Wonder Woman? Yeah. Exaaaaactly.

  1. OK, here's a cut and paste from the discussion over on compuserve re the booby issue - it's a message from Diana Herself... (and rather interesting, I think)

Well...I sent the artist reams of material on clothing, weapons, etc. of the time, let's put it that way. My husband was looking over the early batches of pages and remarked, "At least you know your artist is heterosexual."

Actually, ginormous boobs are so much a convention of comics/graphic novels that it would be Really Difficult to compel anyone--artist, editor, etc.--to jettison them in favor of historical accuracy. Particularly since the publisher is in hopes that this may attract a new audience (i.e., young males) to the novels themselves. (I did ask him to cut back on the truly egregious panels, and he did. Still...)

Sorry - I don't know how to put in a link for y'all to this particular discussion :(
I was looking more closely at the pic of Jamie in the last panel and have decided that, while it doesn't really look like 'my' Jamie, I actually really like it. BTW - DG says that he doesn't have pointed ears, that his hair is just covering over the top. God, we are a picky bunch, aren't we?!

  2. I'm not even mad about it! I'm lovin' the voluptuous Claire! I'm just glad she's more endowed than wee-ho. Hahah! Uh oh, I just had a thought- what if there is a picture in the GN of Jaime and wee-ho in the secret cove?! I canna bear to see it!

  4. So we had some people over for dinner last night, and I passed around the computer to show the guys the panels and asked for a general evaluation. The consensus was pretty much expressed by my lovely hubby: "She has HUGE cans!!!" ;-)

Y'know, I have to say that while Claire's, um, assets are a bit brow raising, it doesna really matter to me. I'm looking forward to The Exile for the words, not the pictures. I don't care if the visuals are stick people--I want to hear the story. Hmmm...wonder if there will be an audio version of the GN....

  5. ha! you ladies crack me up. yeah, i never pictured her to be so boobly. but it is a comic. so relieved to hear that jamie is not a giant elf.

  6. So, um... Tracey. What, exactly are you doing in this pic/icon I see? I'm trying to decide if you are in PJs or are holding a giant fuzzy boa constrictor...

    ReplyDelete
  7. LOL Christie. I believe that is a self-portrait--I'm lying on my bed (in clothes, not PJs) and am sort of sprawled over a pillow. I do like the boa constrictor idea though.... ;-)

  9. OK, thanks - I must say, I'm a kinda 'snake in the bed' sort of girl myself (snort, snort, giggle, giggle...)

  10. I actually didn't even notice their boobs the first time I looked at the pictures but I've been a comic fan for a long time and I think I'm just desensitized to them! LOL

Like Diana said though - hopefully they'll be picking up some male readers with it and you know the big ta ta's will only help with that! :)

  11. And am I the only one that keeps looking at it several times a day?? I'm just so excited for this - you have no idea!!

  12. My hubby took one look and said it looked like a brothel! LOL!! I can bet you he'll be reading it, though!

  13. OK, here's another question about the GN... remember how after their wedding night Jamie confessed to Claire that Rupert and Murtagh had given him some advice about women? Think we'll find out what they told him?!! Wheeeee-heeee!!

    ReplyDelete
  14. Brandy--I am TOTALLY excited for it! I'm doing a reread of Outlander now, and when I got to the part where Murtaugh found Claire and rescued her from BJR, I was like, HOLY COW!! We're going to see how all this went down straight from Murtaugh!! Och, I canna wait, lassie!!!

  15. I think there is going to be quite a bit new stuff we are getting and that is what I'm so excited about!! I'm trying to talk my husband into going to the NY comic con in Oct just so I can meet Diana (again!) and get the GN signed.

  16. You'll also get to meet US at ComicCon--Carol, Jenn M., Shannon and I already have our tix and are investigating hotels as we speak...

  17. Holy hooters, she's busting out!
I'm looking forward to the GN, too, especially to get more of the story. But I'm hoping it's as close as possible as to how Diana see the characters in her head.

I'd love to go to ComicCon and see her. I think Andy Whitfield from Spartacus is going to be there, too. He's my current early Jamie favorite.
    Thanks for the link.

  18. That would be great to meet you guys! It's sort of a long story but hubby doesn't want to take the kids (can't blame him there but I did try that angle) and we don't really have anyone to watch them for just us to go. And I don't have any friends in real life that read the books! I have tried and tried and everyone is put off by the size and the historical fiction. It really bums me out. My new angle is trying to get my brothers to go. One is 30 and is STILL into comic books and the other is 23 and I figure he'd just like to go to NY for the weekend. It's hard to get either of them to commit to anything though so we'll see!

  19. Omg, I haven't read any of your comments yet, but when I saw that picture they other day, I was like What??? The boobs! THEY'RE HUGE!!! My hubby was actually interested in taking a look. I'll go back now and read what others think. I was really pretty disappointed about this..just seems a little over the top.

I do love the Jamie in the last panel..but doesn't he look a little odd in the 1st one?

  20. I had never even CONSIDERED buying a GN until I had heard about The Exile - now I'm hooked! The Ginormous Beeboos don't bother me and I can't WAIT to see how Claire's derriere looks as we all know how fond our Jamie is of it!

  21. Wow 20 comments in one day on a post about boobs! That's hilARious!

    OK a few comments:

Karen - thank you for the link and glad to see you back! How was your trip?

Christie - TOTALLY wondered that, myself. I'm dying to hear the actual conversation that took place between Jamie and Murtagh regarding the wedding night!

Melody: OHHHHHH MYYYYYY GODDDDDDD ARE YOU KIDDINGGGGGG MEEEEEE?!?!? I love Andy Whitfield like you cannot imagine. I've blogged about Andy Whitfield! He'd TOTALLY TOTALLY TOTALLY be my Jamie Fraser - HANDS DOWN - if he were just a bit bigger. That's the only problem. His cat eyes are SECOND TO NONE. His character on Spartacus (ok that would be Spartacus!) is very similar to Jamie Fraser in that he has an unbelievable amount of honor... everyone looks to him for advice... he loves his wife more than anything in the world... god I could go on and on and on. If he is there I will flip my LID!! Already bought my ticket for the weekend! Wheeeeee!

Brandy: 1) "real life" - TEE HEE and 2) I feel your pain, girlfriend. My daughter is 8, my son is 5 and my husband and I have never been away together for more than one night - in 8 years. It sucks. LORDDDDDD I need a getaway!

JaymieJ - "beeboos" - more LOL! I love everyone's terminology for breastasies. ;)

Everyone else - you guys ROCK! Thanks for such a great discussion!

  22. I'm thinking of going to NY Comic con too! Probably a day trip, though. I actually looked into airfair/car/hotel for her signing in AZ, but that's just a wee bit too pricey!

  23. Hi Carol,

I've been lurking through your blog for about 2 weeks now and have been laughing not stop with all your posts/comments/videos. I only wish I had found it back in Nov. when I first started reading the Outlander series, but since I avoid spoilers AT ALL COSTS! just like you, I didn't check anything online until May when I was done with Echo.(I'm re-reading now Voyager!) I can't wait for GN to come out and see another side of the story since by far the first book is my absolute favorite. I found this review while searching for some Outlander things online and though of you, I've never read the Twilight series, but thought the review was pretty funny! (and I agree entirely, HA!)

TOP TEN REASONS WHY THE OUTLANDER SERIES IS BETTER THAN THE TWILIGHT SERIES

    10. Heroine is not complimented on how delicious her blood smells. Instead, she is told that her ass looks like two ripe melons. Just what every woman wants.

    9. When the hero has to rescue the heroine, he doesn't merely have to run at lightning speed across the parking lot. He actually has to travel halfway across the world, kill a few dozen villains, and blow up a few buildings.

    8. But that doesn't matter because just as often the heroine can rescue her own damn self.

    7. Pirates are WAY better than vampires.

    6. The creepy, obsessive dude is an actual villain and not the hero of the story.

    5. The denouement involves actual danger, as opposed to what essentially amounts to a Rainbow Gathering gone awry.

    4. The doctor doesn't come off as a pedophile.

    3. Not one single Renesmee in the entire series.

    2. Nobody is sparkly.

    1. People actually have sex, and lots of it.

  24. Erin - are you "Philly Erin"? If so - we will REPRESENT in NYC! If not - the My Outlander Purgatory gals and I are thrilled to hang with any and all Outlander lovers!

Vilmarie - it's official - you are my favorite person on the PLANET today. I. Am. So. Posting. That. LIST!!! Look for your name up in lights! Thanks!!

  25. LOL! That list is too funny! I like #6. I'm glad to know there are others out there that think Edward is a creepy obsessive dude! (I'm Team Jacob all the way!) I just sent it to my BFF who loves Twilight but I can't get her to read Outlander because she "hates" historical fiction! ugh!

  26. That list is great!!! I have to send it my Twilight friend who refuses to read Outlander even though I bought her a copy!

And Carol, I'm the same Erin from Philly. I'd love to represent at ComicCon!

  28. I love the Spartacus charater, too. Reminds me of Jamie Fraser. Love his love for his wife.
If you see Andy Whitfield at ComicCon, ask him to read some Jamie lines and record it for us. lol
